Temporary Foster Care Statement

DFWMGRR does not offer temporary foster care services to Golden Retrievers. If you need to place your dog temporarily, whether it is for a month or several months, we suggest that you speak with the staff at your veterinarian's office for suggestions. Alternately, you can contact a reputable boarding kennel to see if your dog can be boarded long term. We also do not allow or endorse any volunteer of DFWMGRR to make private arrangements with an adopter or owner seeking foster care for their dog.

Goldendoodles

The Golden Retriever Club of America is dedicated to the health and welfare of the Golden Retriever breed while conserving the original breed function – that of the “working retriever”. A purebred dog offers to his owner the likelihood that he will be a specific size, shape, color, or temperament.

Is Rescue Right For You?

Golden Retrievers are one of the most compatible dog breeds for families. But unfortunately, many Goldens still end up homeless through no fault of their own. Contrary to what some might think, most of these dogs were not abused. Sometimes their original owners find themselves with an unforeseen circumstance such as illness, loss of employment, or relocation to a place where they cannot take their dog with them. Other reasons are divorce, allergies that develop, or just the sad fact that we live in a disposable society and some folks just get tired of things- living or not.

Outside Dallas/Fort Worth Area?

Dedicated volunteers of DFWMGRR work throughout the Dallas Fort Worth area, from Rockwall to West Fort Worth and from Leonard to Waxahachie. The organization also works with other groups to accept Golden Retrievers from northern LA to Midland, TX and the state line of Oklahoma to Waco, TX. We limit ourselves to assisting Golden Retrievers from this geographic area because, quite simply, it is all we can afford both financially and physically. Our volunteers do an extraordinary job of moving dogs around the Metroplex and it would be too taxing to try to accept dogs outside these areas. Rescue organizations exist in adjacent states and we refer Goldens in need from those areas to them.

If you live outside the Dallas/Fort Worth area and you need to surrender a Golden, please refer to this list of Golden Retriever Rescues http://www.grca-nrc.org to find a Golden Rescue in your geographic area.

Thank you for your understanding.

If You Find A Golden Retriever

Golden Retrievers in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex are very fortunate because so many people are looking out for their welfare. Many of you take the time to scan newspaper classified ads for "Free to Good Home" ads or the municipal pound listings required by law. Others of you go out of your way to personally visit shelters to see if Golden Retrievers are among the residents, or peruse the bulletin boards at veterinary offices. Still others watch internet postings. Your dedication to this breed is amazing and heartwarming.
