BE A FOSTER AND SAVE A LIFE!

RESCUE GOLDENS NEED YOU. Every year we are seeing an increasing number of these wonderful dogs being surrendered directly to Rescue, turned into shelters or left abandoned on the streets to fend for themselves. Our website has many stories about these wonderful Golden Retrievers; a look at the Recently Adopted Photos shows that happy new beginnings are made possible by all those connected with Rescue, but especially by the Foster Homes.

DFW Metro Golden Retriever Rescue is committed to helping as many Golden Retrievers as we can, and to do so we are trying to drastically increase the number of foster families taking our dogs into their homes. Foster homes reduce the cost of boarding, which in turn is a huge savings for our group. For every dog we do not have to pay to board, we are able to take in another dog. Simple financial mathematics!

If you are thinking of adding another companion to your home, fostering is a wonderful and very rewarding way to see if that is a good decision. Perhaps you would like to teach your children about compassion and helping others. If you support Rescue and do not have any pets of your own, that’s great as well. Golden Retrievers give back so much love for the kindnesses given to them, the reward of fostering is seen daily.

Where have foster families come from before? From members, volunteers, former adopters and caring people just like you. Some have fostered a few and no more, and others get "hooked" and continually foster, taking time off only for vacations and some down time. You are never on your own as a foster, as there is a big support group within our foster community. Some of our Golden Retrievers need an "in and out" home, some need a home for an extended period of time to go through such things as heartworm treatment, recover from injuries or simply to gain weight. The Foster Coordinator works with you to be sure you are matched with exactly the right situation. All of the Rescue dogs have been to the veterinarian before you are asked to foster, are current on shots, and have been microchipped. If they do require medication, it is provided. All you need to provide is shelter, food, and love. You need to have a fenced yard, and the dog will need to be kept confined in a yard or other enclosure at all times and supervised. Rescue can provide crates for use inside the home. The foster dog will spend the majority of its time inside your home and be made available for adoption appointments, and to come to adoption Saturdays to meet and greet while in your care. In the event that veterinary treatment is required while the dog is in your care, Rescue is responsible for costs. If for some reason the foster Golden does not work out or you no longer care to foster, Rescue will find another foster home.

There is a need for foster homes as we have limited kennel space for Golden Retrievers if they do not have a foster family to join. If you are interested, please fill out a Foster Application, or send an email (attention Foster Coordinator) to Info@RescueGoldens.org. We will meet with you if needed, and go over everything you need to know.

SO, WON'T YOU GIVE FOSTERING A TRY??? Thank you from all the Golden Retrievers waiting to come into Rescue.
